Fox Hollow Lean-to Worktrip

Registration is closed for this event
Looking for a fun, interesting project this weekend? Join us at Follow Hollow Trail to help build a new privy!

The worktrip will entail:

•Dig Hole for New Privy: Look for a dry location, dig hole and set stones to receive new privy. (The prefabrication and construction of he privy will be latter in the season.)

•Set New Pipe in Spring: There is good flowing spring dribbling out onto the ground. We will dig back into the hillside, hopefully to find a concentrated flow. Cementing rocks and installing a pipe to concentrate the flow for easier use and greater seasonal reliability.

•Rebuild Fire Pit: Over the years the fire pit has become a huge mass of rocks and stones and needs to be cleaned out and rebuilt with stones found on site.

The Hike in/Water/Shelter: In addition to bringing in any personal gear for the day or an overnight, your help will be needed to carry in and out tools and some materials. We will hike in from the north end of the Giant’s Ledge- Panther-Fox Hollow. It’s an easy hike to the lean-to, 0.4 mile up hill on an old road. The spring should supply us with water and the shelter is only three years old. There is no privy.

When to meet: Friday May 20th and Saturday May 21st. You can either come for the day or stay at the shelter to make a fun volunteer trip out of the experience!

Where to meet: At the Trailhead Parking for Giant’s Ledge-Panther-Fox Hollow Trail. The trailhead is on Fox Hollow Road, off NYS Route 28 a few miles west of Phoenicia. . Anticipate not having cell service.

What to bring: Lunch and snacks, sturdy shoes, plenty of water, safety glasses, gloves, bug repellant, water purification and a headlight for the hike out. If you’ll be spending the night, bring your necessary overnight gear and food. Digging tools etc. will be supplied.

Once registered for the event, you will be contacted directly by the volunteer leader with more details.
