Historic Hike at Neversink Gorge

Registration is closed for this event
Trail users have long been curious about the stone ruins of a dam and lumber mill in the Neversink Gorge where Wolf Brook empties into the Neversink River.

Please join the second season of our popular tour of the ruins of Hackledam, an 1800s logging community in Neversink River Gorge. From the 1920s it was known as a wild place of mystery (and bear hunting), but it previously sustained lumber and grist mills, small farms, a vineyard, and the 'very fine home' of the local lumber baron.

After the 90-minute tour (half-mile one way), you can continue on extensive trails to three waterfalls and more fanatastic views of the Neversink River.

Please be aware that there is no cell service, bathrooms, or garbage cans at the trailhead. The beginning of the hike is a moderate descent with some loose stones so we recommend walking sticks for participants who’d like more stability. The return is a half-mile moderate incline.
